'Huston, we have a problem'

Yes, we have a problem

Over the last 1000km or so the gear box has developed a whine in it. After investigating this whine we are exactly no where. The possibilities are:
a) It carries on whining for the next few years
b) The gear box packs in just up the road.
Don't you just love mechanics.
After sleeping on this little conundrum we have decided to head for Perth on Sunday. We have located a second hand gearbox there. The possibility of finding a new one are extremely remote. We have been ringing around all over the place to find one, the conversation generally goes something like this:

'Gday, I'm after a gear box for a 1984 Toyota Hi Ace'?????
Silence
'Why'?????
'Oh, my brother and I are over here from Victoria for a holiday and the gearbox has developed a whinning'
Silence
'You drove the Hi Ace over from Vic'??????
'Er, yes'
Silence
'Why'?????
'Oh, it''s a bit of a long story, but we have to get home again'
'What,,,,,,,,, your going to drive it back again'??????
'Yes'
Silence
'How old are you and your brother'??????
'Have you got a bloody gearbox or not'

Well, you get the picture. After a tour of the repair shops around Karratha, we got passed from one, to another, who generally said 'You'd be best to try Fred's round the corner'. Fred: 'No, try Harry's, he's the one for you' and so it went.
Until we ran into 'Dave' who took pity on us the silly sod. We attached ourselves to 'Good 'ole Dave' like two drowning men.
Dave is a true gentleman and has been great with Ken & I. He tracked down a mate of his (Neil) in Perth who has a secondhand one. Neil, knows his stuff and has given us some great advice. If we can get it to him Monday morning he should have us on our way Tuesday afternoon.

Heres the catch, we have to get the bus to Perth. The chance of that is about 50/50 ??????????
